'Cyber superwoman' Susan McLean to help St George's parents
After 27 years in the police force and as the first Victorian police officer appointed to a position involving cyber safety and young people, Susan McLean is considered Australia's foremost expert in cyber safety. Something that is important to all of us here at St George’s.
Widely known as the 'cyber cop' or 'cyber superwoman', Susan speaks nationally and internationally to schools, parents, businesses and sporting clubs about cyber safety and what we can do to help safeguard and protect our children as well as giving a clearer insight about what they may or may not be getting up to online. It is indeed a world where we need to strive to stay one step ahead of our children and Susan McLean is here to help us.
St George's parents and carers are invited to take up a unique opportunity to meet Susan at our fourth and final Parent Guest Speaker Series of 2024. Susan's visit follows a Year 9 education session earlier this year. Her November 13 presentation is one for all parents, guardians or care givers. Make sure you book your place early (below) as places are limited.
Teens are often not aware that their words and or photos, which may have been intended for a small audience, sometimes find their way to a larger one, often with both unexpected and undesirable consequences – Susan will help open our eyes of the dangers of the online world and help us to allow our children to stay safe whilst navigating the online world in which they so readily operate.
"As today’s parents grew up in a world devoid of these technologies, they often have little knowledge on how best to assist and guide their children. And while teenagers' technical skills are superb, they need to appreciate and accept that just as in the real world, there are dangers in cyberspace. Parents need to teach kids that cyberspace is permanent.''
